Allsopp’s revival brews a modern take on historic IPA
Allsopp’s has launched Allsopp’s IPA, a 4.4% ABV cask ale inspired by the 1822 Burton recipe. Brewed with UK Golden Promise malt and Challenger hops, it’s a dark copper beer with herbal, spicy and resinous notes, bitterness and malt backbone. It’s a measured, contemporary take rather than a museum piece. The revival rests on the only surviving Allsopp’s brewing ledger, found in a Leeds pub and containing more than 100 recipes, including IPA, Pale Ale, Double Diamond, Stout and Arctic Ale. Jamie Allsopp spent almost two years researching the records, guiding the project as part of the Samuel Allsopp & Sons revival. The beer debuted at Leeds International Beer Festival and joins a refreshed range that includes Pale Ale, Best Bitter, Stout, Lager, Double Diamond and Arctic Ale. The ledger recounts the 1822 challenge to make beer for the India voyage and the teapot method used to preserve it. Source: Beer Today
