Admiral Taverns expands footprint by absorbing Mountain Pub Co

Admiral Taverns has acquired Mountain Pub Company from Downing, folding the Mountain Pubs portfolio into its Proper Pubs division. The deal advances Admiral Taverns’ plan to widen its nationwide footprint and strengthen its position as the UK’s leading community pub group, backed by Proprium Capital Partners. Mountain Pubs will sit within Proper Pubs, the group’s wet-led division, which runs 245 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales. Led by Helen Standing, Mountain Pubs operates 10 community pubs across the North of England, including The Southport Coaster and The White Hart in Todmorden. Standing explained that Mountain launched with The Southport Coaster in November 2022 and grew to 10 pubs in two years, built on an operating partner model that blends local entrepreneurship with operating standards, commercial discipline and central support.
